Mckeenh, I started learning engraving 6 years ago. But I have been drawing and painting, specially portraits, for 15 years. I believe that, once you learn engraving, you can only engrave what you can draw.
I used both manual and air assisted tools. Some very fine lines are only done by 'caressing' the plate with the tip of the graver.
A job like this takes from 3 to 4 days to be done, but better having a couple of weeks to work on it. Rushing is not good.
It was glued on a rectangle plate of brass, and all on a wood piece, with an inscription below. I was in a rush and I didn't take photos of the finished piece, sorry.
