Now that sounds like a good idea for a contest!

Chris you can always do what I do (learned it from Marty) - I mark my gravers with what angle they're sharpened to. One advantage of the GRS QC or the Lindsay Artisan QC system is that you can carve it into the collet. Or just use a ultra-fine Sharpie and cover it with clear tubing.

Use the NSK Presto rotary with a diamond bur and write on the graver shank what you'd like. It is similar to writing with a pen.

Thank you Chris.
Hey, So are you saying that using the new template sharpener is easier than using the toilet? :smilie5:
I guess the only real looking part is seeing how far to grind the heels so they are the same size. It is nice not having to set angles.

Thanks again Chris! Steve

Steve

Hadn't thought about using a rotary to write the angle - probably because I don't have mine (yet - ask again in a week. :chrissy

And Chris - it's the blindfolded graver sharpening we want the video of, nothing else.

Last time I checked that nsk presto was $365 from Brasseler. Brasseler's number is 800-841-4522 ex. 4675. Seems like a week or so ago someone emailed and found them on ebay for even less than that. Might check there.

Thanks Steve!

We've already got a rotary lined up for me but I know I'm not the only one who doesn't have one right now.

I have colored bands I place on the graver to match the colors of the templates and they are small enough they do not interfere with the length gauge so when I touch up or sharpen they do not need to come off I have not messed up even once after I came up with these.

I do not like to spend a lot of time sharpening that is why after Steve developed his template system I made the hone and the bands , I want to get it done, no mistakes and back to the bench.

Poor Van - the days must be dragging by!

The ever-indulgent wife and I finally made it - our two weeks started once we escaped the work place last night. Took her a bit longer since things will likely collapse while she's gone. She stayed until almost 8:00 trying to prop them up as best she could.

Indeed a very nice way of sharpening gravers!
I recieved mine a few days ago and Im very happy with it. Thanks Steve!
Next thing is to indeed mark the gravers.
I had one of my first engraving jobs this week and must say that I spent a lot of time finding the right one's quickly so colour tubing and diamondburr engraving on the graver seems a good idea.

Thanks again Steve!!!

Daniel

If you don't already have one you need to make (or buy) yourself something to hold and organize your gravers. I've got a rotating tray set. I take one of the small round trays and put the gravers I'm using for the current project on it, in a particular order. Makes life a lot easier.

OK!!
Maybe totally Blind, Not Really Tru!! but it can work.:smilie5:
Danny I tried the Video Idea, But Couldn't See where to Focus on,:smilie5:
Must Be The Blind Fold.:willy_nilly:

No Sorting the Gravers No Problem, I have a Rotary Tray with holes in the Top, I put some tape on the front Edge, with the Various Deg. and sort the Gravers in the specified Area. I also have some small "o" rings in various colors, (they use them in computor work.) That I use for various angles.
For the gravers that end up on the table for Sharpening.

Somebody in another Thread wanted to Know what to do to get a 50deg face,
I use Two ways,
Perspex spacer 6mm thick under the templates. But Make sure You use the Small template on this same spacer, for the heels and Primary. !!:yesnod:

I made a Shorter spacer tube, 9mm shorter (22.5), this i only use with the large templates, No Spacer. for the front face angle. 50deg.

See Ya!!!
