Here is a link to a knife I finished up recently. I find symmetrical knives the most difficult to design, and not have them look redundant. So I took a different approach on this and incorporated the double pearl into the design by putting a gold oval around it. The rolling leaf design was a border I found in a victorian ornament book so I took that idea and molded it to fit this application. Also I went with a lined background so it would still look gold but of a different shade, and the drop shadow to lift it off the background and give a little more dimension. hi Brian .. thanks for posting that knife , that is just fantastic , great work from a real master engraver .. i engrave a lot of Oborne knives and i do like them you can get real creative on them .. ron p

Barry you know your engraving, yes the original design that inspired this was done by Charles Klimsch, he was a true master of design. BTW nice job on the SR Johnson, you are braver than I

Ron, Thanks for the compliment, that carries a lot of weight coming from you, but master I am not, although I am trying, and maybe one day I may make it there, but guys like, Churchill, Fracassi, Coggan, they are the true masters. But I will agree that Warren's knives are a pleasure to engrave, especially being this was a symmetrical piece, one side was exactly the same as the other, which is not always the case, so there was no fudging the design to fit.

Is that two colors of gold? It really looks like it is, but the look is achieved by shading only?

The knife looks fantastic. You sure have come far in a relatively short time. I'm always eager to see what you will be doing next. It must have made you a bit nervous pounding in the gold so close to the inlay. Great job!!

Phil, its a good thing I have my hat on or my head may swell, Thanks for the kind words, that means a lot, especially from you, being one of the fellas that is at the level I am working to reach.

Andy, you bet I was gentle, there is a small rim of steel between the gold and the pearl, which is not really noticed, being after the inlay was done I cut a line on it to make it black. But I was well aware of the potential danger,and made sure not to stress that rim and put pressure on the edge of the pearl. I would not get that close on a stone inlay.

Ron and Tom, the oval is just plain old gold. The lined background just really gives off a nice darkened tone. I did inlay the piece in sheet, but in 4 sections, to better utilize my sheet of gold.

Jerry you bet, next year, I may try for Scotts as well, time will tell
