Don't get discouraged by that bone/horn bracelet you tried! Both materials are very difficult to work with. Probably the best most readily available man made materials to try scrimshaw on is either corian or micarta. Micarta can be kinda finicky though, some scrims well some doesn't, depends on the manufacturer.
