Default My one and only knife

Once upon a time I thought it would be interesting to make a fighting sword.
I had been given a piece of walrus tusk and that became the inspiration for this project. To me Neptune represents the sea. The blade is twenty two inches long and Neptune’s bronze head is removable and has a short 5 inch knife hidden inside the handle The trident is gold inlayed with sea horses and terns. Bronze mermaids are fitted to either side. After it was completed I decided then and there that I never wanted to become a knife maker.

To tell you the truth Carl I dont remember how long. But I would guess four or five weeks.
There are other items included with the sword that I have no pictures of. There is a nice replica Lepage duelling pistol, gold inlaid and inscribed The Endeavor, all was in a fitted Oak case lined with Sea Otter fur with a relief medalion in bronze inset on the lid depicting Neptune standing on the world with his trident raised.
I was in the beginning years of my freelance career,Got desperate for money and sold the whole thing for a thousand five hundred dollars. No regrets, it is part of what is needed to seperate those who want to from those who do. Thank's for the interest and compliment, your opinions are of great value to me.The set travled around with a FEGA display about 1985-6 perhaps someone has a photo of it.

Joseph, I understand about parting with your work I could not quess how many things I had to sell in my early days to pay the bills. One way or another it costs to learn.
