Exclamation My 1st engraving: the day after.

Hi all!

In my last post "My 1st engraving" Roland Baptiste and SEngraver told me the image is to little for apreciate details and help me in improve my work.

Now I attach a pictures of a new practice plate. I think this plate is much better than the plates I did before.
What has changed?... only one thing, I bought a turntable.
I readed before about these turntables, but did not know how important is until I tried.

The pictures are dificult to take due the bright of the cuts.

Thanks mates and have a nice day.
Carlos

Well Done!
Is a great start ,the cuts look very well and clean, the shading too for the first time, now you have to try to make the background.
Congratulations carlos

First I was looking for a turntables for engravers but what I found is expensive, about 300$.

After a search for alternatives I found this turntable:

http://www.angelacolls.com/default.a..._SHIMPO_BW-18L

This is for clay modelers but works perfect due is totally built in steel and is heavy, also have a steel ball bearing that gives a very smooth turn.

The cost is not too high, 42,48€.

I hope this give an idea for other beginers.

Thanks.

Looking good!

One trick for photos - rub a marker across the plate and then clean it off with your thumb. The flat surface will get clean and the cuts will stay dark (so will your thumb). Gives great contrast for the picture, cleans off with a little acetone on a paper towel.

Hahaha, in fact, when I asked the seller about a turntable of 25 cm she said she had sold a few days ago. May be the your's

I bought the 18 cm and I'm happy with it, is enough for me.

Thanks SVD for the trick for the photos. When I finish the plate I will use a bit of black ink and take a new pictures.

Nice one SE!. This was my first choice, but due to I'm not sure if it make smooth turns, I finally chose the clay modelers turntable.

Turns smooth for you this model?

Thank you,
Carlos

Here is a picture of the practice plate with black ink. (Thanks to SVD).

The next step is remove the background, but I think this is the hard stage, is when I make a true disasters...

Thanks,
Carlos

Hi Mrthe,

Your workshop in very nicely set up,looks great
Where is the classic ?

I bought one that is used to display big things in shop windows the specs. say it would tolerate 100 lbs, it seems ok,I had to use two to bring the vise to a workable height, but between the two I used a sheet of very hard nylon maybe teflon otherwise it was wobbling.

So far so good. But sooner or later I will have to get a proper turntable. And both your suggestion and Carlos looks good.

Carlos, Your practise plate is looking better and better. With background it should look great.
