Re: Motorcycle Engraving ~ photos
I never gave a thought to do any bike parts thinking, what would a person do to make anything look good , let alone even show up on all that chromed area. Well, Otto gave us all the answer. Now I know what it is supposed to look like. I wonder if he likes removing background now???:willy_nilly:
I'd be proud to ride that around. I have a BMW R1200GS which is about the ugliest bike there is even if I ran it through a barbed wire fence (pronounced "bob wahr" fence in Georgia) it would make an improvement to its apprearance. Wonder if Otto could help it.?

Obviously Otto LIKES his VTX. They are pretty cool especially the 1800s. That must have taken a LOT of time, just in taking it apart and putting it back together never mind the engraving. That is just plain AWESOME! Otto does great work. Peter |

Re: Motorcycle Engraving ~ photos
It's okay for a. . . Honda, scrolls and all. As a Harley rider, what I'd want to know is can Otto engrave flames or skulls or flaming skulls. That's what REAL motorcycles have on them!
Actually, it's pretty nice. I've seen a couple of bikes with engraving and they were not all that great, but this is good. Neighbor has a VTX. Pretty nice ride. David

Re: Motorcycle Engraving ~ photos
Thanks everybody for the kind words. Yes, it was a lot of work. I'm glad I had it down during the winter. I was about to go crazy not riding it now that the weather's getting warm. I do some of the skull and flame thing too. Check out the ride "Hellborn" on my website http://www.ottocarter.com/motorcycle.htm I'm also an official "Lowbrow" artist as I used to do art commissions and concepts for the legendary Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. So yep, it's in my blood. I started out life as a signpainter, airbrusher and pinstriper. By the way, the VTX is a big mean bad fast 110 cubic inches of raw power that will blow most any cruiser off the road. Oops sorry Harley guys. Just kidding, most of my clients are Hogsters.
Thanks again. Otto

Re: Motorcycle Engraving ~ photos
Hi Otto
That really is something. I can only imagine the amount of work and effort that went into it. It never ceases to amaze me just how many surfaces are suitable for engraving and how we are only limited by our imaginations. So when is the multi colored gold inlay, overlay, jewel studded, sculptured, nitre blued, colour case hardened version coming out? Beautiful work on the rest of your web site as well. Cheers Andrew |

Re: Motorcycle Engraving ~ photos
Otto,
I've scoured the net looking at all sorts of motorcycle engraving and there's no question that you are the best out there. You are mentioned on all sorts of blogs too. It is, unquestionably, true motorcycle engraving. I've been working on my bike this winter as well and will post a photo of the engine here in a week or two. I'm hoping to give you a good run for your money!!!! Haha!! My hat off to you sir, not only does the varying quality of sand casted aluminum make this job difficult, but the size and shape of these parts also tend to complicate. Aside from that, you gotta love yer ride if yer willin' to get as greasy and grimy and tarnish covered as this sort a work gits ya. Regards, Chris Malouf |

Re: Motorcycle Engraving ~ photos
Otto, that is beautiful work. I'm amazed at how nice the large engraving looks. Everyone says 'small' is better, but on that machine, it is awesome.

Re: Motorcycle Engraving ~ photos
Thanks for posting this example of engraving. I have been looking for oportunities to engrave unusual surfaces and unusual themes. I know I am not the only one who looks at most metal objects and thinks "what would I engrave on that if given the chance?" everthing from automobile wheels to the light pole along the highway. I have even contemplated engraving the skirting around the door knobs in my house, (if only they were solid instead of brass plated). Good work!!

Re: Motorcycle Engraving ~ photos
Steve nice of you to pull up someones work and display it. Otto's work is exceptional and I probably would not have seen it if not for this viewing. I like the blend of traditional biker lines and his own flair.

Re: Motorcycle Engraving ~ photos
Otto has some sweet engravings on his site as well. Checked out the site and he has got some really nice work on the firearms he does too. Oil paintings are not bad either. Seems he is an all around great artist. Thanks for sharing his work Steve.
