I just finished this Kershaw, and thought I would post it. I would appriciate any comments. If anyone decides to engrave one of these you are in for some fun. This is some tough stainless. It was a learning experiance, and even though it was tough metal I still had fun, even though I renamed it from time to time.

I have that same exact knife, it's the one with the pocket clip on the other side right? A couple of weeks ago I decided to use it as a practice piece. I drew a border around the edge and thought I would cut the border first and then do the design afterward. I did about 1/4" of the border and knew then I would have to save it for a later day. Really tuff stuff! I've never engraved or worked with guns much, but can you tell me, is gun metal that tuff? If so, I may never want to engrave on gun metal.

You knife looks good though. You did a good job.

it looks good to me but could you post a larger picture, its hard to really get a good look at it. I've never seen a Kershaw like that it looks almost like a Spyderco. anyway good work and thanks for posting

Hi Gene,

Gun metal is like butter compared to this Kershaw Knife. I finally ended up using carbide gravers, and did more sharpning in one day than I would in a year. The next time you go to a gun show/sale look for an old gun part to pratice on. I may have some old parts in my junk box, If so I coule send you something if you are interested.

I will look at your larger post, but it looks nice. Not over complicated. Have you tried adding detail to screws? I bet that would be hard.

Looks good, but like the others I'd like to see it closer.

Is that a Chive? I'm more of a Benchmade fan myself but Kershaw and Spyderco make more knives suitable for engraving, at least as far as I can tell.

I do believe this is called a chieve, and is a handy little knife, Hard as nails to engrave tho.

Pat,
I believe these are made of 410 series stainless, and the blade is 420 series stainless. I do know I now have several differn't languages, and they all consist of blue smoke, and steam.

Yes, now that we can see it it's easy to tell that it does look nice!

The feedback you get on the forums is a wonderful thing. You'll find Master Engravers giving tips to people who have just mastered the straight line - ones they can use too.

The internet is a weird and wonderful thing. This is some of the wonderful - you're on your own for the weird but it's not hard to find.

I just finished a series of Spyderco knives for a wedding party and they engraved nicely, so any of you guys that want to try one look on the net, They are relitively inexpensice on some site.

They're wholesale only (they're actually a mid-level company) so you have to have a sales tax ID to get signed up with them.

The one thing I forgot to mention no matter what knife you try to engrave is that many times the pins are not visible and when you hit one it will usually be harder that the scales and you need to be aware of this so you don't go skating off and mess up your work. The pins are workable but you will have to make more than one pass and be careful.
