Default Holland & Holland ~ Mike Dubber

Mike's new website is up and the way he has his gallery, you can click twice on the images and they are high resolution photos. Good for study. :whoo: www.FirearmsEngraving.com

Here is one from his gallery. I rotated it so it would fit on the forum easier.

Wow! This photos are so High Def that I have had several "AHA! That's how they do that!" moments already with just a quick perusal of this site. What a great site and awesome engravings. Thanks for pointing out this site Steve, and Thank you very much to Mike Dubber for putting this site together!

Chapi:

Thanks, but I did'nt do it alone, I had professional help in building the web site.

Some of the photos on the site are mine and others were done professionally. The photo of the H&H in Steve's post was shot by Tom Alexander during the FEGA Exhibitions in Reno in 2001 - several of the other photos on my web site were as well. FEGA and ACGG has had a resident professional photographer at the Exhibition for the past 15 years or so. Tom brings his equipment and props to Reno and sets up in a room accross from the Exhibition Hall. After the photoraph is taken, he supplies cd disc copies of the photos to the engraver, FEGA has access to his photo files for The Engraver and other Guild publications, and files are available to professional writers as well. These are a few of the many good reasons to have photos of your work taken during the Annual Exhibition.

Very soon I'll be receiving a new Alexander photo of the floorplate from the 2009 California Deer Association Rifle. Tom took that shot last week in Reno. I'll post it here when it arrives.

G' day all,

well I'm new to this site and now wish I had never seen it. Have been very interested in learning how to engrave guns, now I have seen what has and can be done, I think I have got a snow balls chance in hell of even coming close to you guys.
keep up the good work and I'll keep on dreaming.

Cheers

Kempy:

There are many good ways to learn engraving today - check out the School Sites on this Forum. A few days and few dollars spent with a good instructor can put you years ahead of what you could do on your own.

Kempy

I too know that I'll never match some of the folks you see here - I just don't have the artistic skills for that kind of work.

But that doesn't mean I might not match the level of their work, if I keep working.

I recently saw the quote to the effect that if you think you can reach the highest levels you might be wrong, but if you think you'll never reach them you will be right.

I'll keep working on my technical skills so I can cut the lines I want, my design skills so I know what lines I want to cut, and worry about my inability to draw those lovely realistic scenes when it gets in my way.
