Default haidas in the house

nice to be a part of this forum... been getting the newsletters for a while.

also salivating over the palm control.

i am a carver... living between vancouver bc, and Haida Gwaii. i am not strictly an engraver, but do a lot of cast pieces, which are all inevitably re engraved.
i work almost exclusively within the Northwest coast (Haida) tradition, in a number of media.. wood stone bone, and metals, of course. if there is a body in here with questions i might be able to help with, then i will do my best.

look forward to learning and sharing with the group.

Hello Chujybear,
I love the Haida work you are doing. I have liked this style of work ever since I visited Seattle several years ago & I wear a silver Haida braclelet everyday.
Can you tell me what is the black material you used in the carving? I know I have seen some before carved in the Haida style. Also what is the face made from? It looks like gold with opals, is that right? Very nice work.

Simon.

the black is a stone called argillite. like slate, a sedimentary stone.. and very nice to carve. these days i do almost all my originals in it. the bear is 22kt with abalone inlay (dig for the gem shell), and ivory teeth.

suppose creepy works for me.
