Hi from Istanbul
Hi,
I am from Istanbul and interested to engraving but I am not sure can I manage it? I've got onglette number 0 graver and aluminium sheet about 10x10 cm and tried to do a dog's head. Dogs, hunting and nature are my passion. I couldn't transferred the image onto the aluminium sheet and I preferred to draw it by pencil onto the sheet and after did something with graver. I know nothing about engraving and drawing. I would like to ask you any ability needed for engraving or anyone can learn it? I couldn't find any engraving course here. Are DVD and books enough to learn engraving? I tried to do shading but it is not well seen from every direction, graved lines seen as shaded or shining from different angles. It is changing according to direction from where you are looking to it. Is this happened because of aluminium sheet or me? Is Aluminium good choice for practice? I have attached my graved plate's photo. What do you think can I manage it or it is better to give up from its beginning. Have a nice work all of you Sinan |

Re: Hi from Istanbul
Of course you should continue engraving.
I'm just a beginner myself.. But can I suggest giving copper a try? I think it's a very "kind" metal to work with. And welcome!! :-D |
