Gold Inlay on an Al Mar 2" folder
This is only my second attempt of gold inlay. this is a very small 2" knife, and I had a hell of a time undercutting it. However, it's not perfect, but not too bad either. I welcome any criticism, comments, and questions of course.

Re: Gold Inlay on an Al Mar 2" folder
Hi Dave,
Never tried cutting one of the Al Mar knives. I hear they are great. Daniel's right. Overall, I would use a slightly narrower inlay which should be in proportion to the size of the design while varying the width as you get toward the ends of the scroll. For something like this, you should be able to use 2 or three different widths of wire which will minimize the "overflow" as you pound it into the cavity. Pound it, scrape the excess carefully, then pound it again before sanding it flush. What type of graver are you using for an undercutting tool? I've found that the M42 works best. Looks great man ... gold in the design changes everything ... especially the speed in which a customer reaches for his wallet!! Chris |

thanks for the input. I am using regular hss for undercutting. I still don't have the feel for different graver materials, and what to use where.
