Default Joe Kious scrimmed and engraved folder

Here is a folder by custom knife maker Joe Kious. The knife is a lock back featuring a polished Damascus wharncliff blade and antique ivory inlays. The blade spine and back spacer are fully file worked.

The antique ivory inlays were scrimmed by the talented Ron Jr. with swim suit models.

The stainless steel handle was nicely engraved by well known Brian Hochstrat.

The knife turned out simply stunning.

My but that's beautiful!

On the engraving, I'm guessing that the apparent relief is an illusion, done with some very carefully spaced background lines and a lot of work making the drop shadows. Am I right?

The whole package just works. The soft silvery tones of the metals blends with the feel of the scrimshaw on the ivory, the curves of the ladies with the curves of the scrolls and the knife itself....

Steve,

Right on the money...I am impressed.

Engraving is done with extremely shallow relief. With eyes closed, one would barely be able to feel the engraved surface.

Thanks for the input!

I've done some of that 'fake relief' - IMHO it's actually harder than doing real relief.

But if you can pull it off, man does it look good!
