Hello everybody
My name is Klaus, I am a goldsmith jewelry designer.
I am German but grew up and was trained in Switzerland; now I live in Rhode Island USA. I have been using the palm control Lindsay graver for stone setting for a few years now. Love the little thing. Jim my "right hand man" and I want to get into ornamental jewelry engraving. That's why I am here. I am glad I was able to join such a capable group. If it's about jewelry I might even be able to help. I am an engraving novice, jewelry making I know. From pure bench fabrication to CAD I am here to help. A quick question: Sometimes the Carbalt bit breaks in the back in the heft of the Palm Control hand piece. What am I doing wrong? How many screws do you use to block the bit? One or two? Did you guys encounter breakage in that area of the bit? Thanks a lot, Klaus |

Re: Hello everybody
Hi Klaus,
No, I've never heard of anyone breaking a graver at the machine end but I'm fairly new. I don't and I believe most do not tighten the graver into the handpiece, it is not necessary it just slips in and out. I believe the set screws are for holding the graver in alignment from point to the handle flat not to hold it in. Is it snapping in half? If you're tightening the side pressure and vibration may be the cause, Steve will be able to tell you, email or call him he's always helpful. Bob

Re: Hello everybody
Hi Klaus, If you use a setscrew or thumbscrew tighten the graver only tighten one. It will hold better since the screw is pushing graver shank against the side of the tool hole. If you tighten two setscrews on either side of each other the graver shank can teeter totter that will put a lot of stress on that spot on the graver shank.
