Default pretend engraver

Hi I'm Trying to make engraved surfaces n my cad program for jewellery.
I understand that this may be a bit strange to be posting in here.
Here is my first go at cad engraving on a ring shank.
it was made in native Rhino 3D 4.0
I need to learn more about the patterns so that why I'm here.

I sure wish I could actually cut this by hand wow.
I'm going to grow in a 3d wax growing machine then cast it into gold.
I will try to bright cut by hand with plain old gravers...if I can remember how to polish em heh heh
Merry Christmas

Hey, that came out pretty good!

Check out the Ron Smith books to learn how to do the designs.

It's my understanding that you'll have problems getting the actual item to look right but it'll be close enough that a quick touchup with a graver will do the trick. And even without that it should look pretty nice.

As for getting your gravers polished up right, do you have a sharpening system? Something like the Lindsay template based system will make an amazing difference over sharpening by hand. It won't be as convenient as just grabbing the stone, but you'll get incredibly consistent results. Follow up the 1200 grit stone in the set with some rouge on leather or polishing paper and you can get a great shine on your graver. Just find one of the many, many threads on sharpening for details.

Be sure and post pictures of the finished ring!

For those of you that do not realize it these are not photographs of a real ring. They are photorealistic computer generated images. They kind of tick my off because I have been making hand made jewelry for decades and couldn't come close to this perfection even if I came up with such a beatiful design. Well Done. chickenscratcher

Wow, great Rhino skills! Getting a water tight pattern with that level of detail is no easy feat. What are you planning to do with the material behind the hearts (under the baguettes)? Perhaps a matt finish? I really like the pierce (gallery) work under the head, my kind of stuff fer shure.

I'm in the same boat here. I want to learn to engrave well. I've been designing rings with scroll work in Rhino for years and have just my best to finish them up with a push graver. I'll usually mill my Rhino patterns (Roland MDX-40 with Protowizard attachments) and the unmillable rings get sent out and printed on a Perfactory that is installed with the finest detail lens.

I joined the forum here (yesterday) to get the skinny on the Airgraver, buy one, and then learn how to use it. I totally can't wait to get started
