Default photoshop help

hello, I have CS6 on my pc and noticed in another post that some of you use this software to create patterns. Would anyone be able to post me a link for any training or help videos for this? I am guessing the pen tool is used to do this, but me and the pen do not get along at all!!! I also have adobe illustrator if that may be of use? currently i am only using my mouse until i can afford the tablet and stylus.

Thanks!!

I found a pic of a sectioned nautilus shell and traced it in Corel Draw, but Illustrator is basically the same. I then scan the item if its flat and trace the engraving space. I then use my pre-drawn backbone to do the layout. All the extra parts are drawn directly onto the piece.

You need to practice your freehand drawing of scrolls and learn how you can adapt them to awkward spaces.

Thanks, I do draw a lot of free hand. until work picks up i am just messing around with scraps and a dremel engraver. I just liked the way the above mentioned design looked and figured my CS6 program should do the same.

Thanks again!

I use Adobe Illustrator and a graphics tablet quite a lot. A Cintiq would be as great toy.. err tool, i meant tool!

But if thats not in your budget, a cheap windows tablet with graphics pen will do. I opted for a EP121. LOVE that device.. truly one of my better buys. I woudl say a better investment than a Cintiq. I can draught stuff in 2D and 3D cad on the train etc. ideas never get lost.
