Default air gravers in alaska

Hello: google searches for engraving classes in Alaska have prooven futile. so far I am attempting to self teach. Yikes! lots of trip wires. I worked as a commercial artist at one time, and as a wooden boat builder and historical gun maker, tools are second nature. I am having problems making long cuts without the graver skipping out of the cut. any tips such as finger pressure? graver or compressor adjustments? my graver is a Lindsay classic. Thanks so much for your time Ken

Ken,You should have no problem with your Classic, sounds like you need to get better control over the tool, check the tip of the graver to see if the tip has a chip that could be a problem.Don't put to much pressure on the tool just gulid it and you'll do just fine. J.J.

Ken it sounds to me like you either have a broken tip or too small or non-existant heel (belly) re-sharpen that puppy and go to work! I also use the classic. If you need more queries answered you are welcome to e-mail me owen@walkergoldsmiths.com Say hi to Palmer for me! My home town!..........O

Well,
Just got home from Kens!!
He is so fired up,got him straight on the basics of sharpening , bench set up,lighting, magnification, practice plates, and.........Wait for it.............

How to use his Classic.
I pumped him full of information that took me FOREVER to learn on my own.
Now he can move on and become an famous engraver.
Couldnt believe that little humming bird called the Classic. Was like a AA battery with an handle.

Oh well,I am home now with my beloved Hammer & chisel, and my lowly push gravers......
