Default Barry Lee Hands 24k Gold overlay work in progress

Here are some pics of an SR Johnson integral big bear in progress.
After I have cut the outline, after that, I raise teeth inside:

Hey Barry,

The knife appears to be assembled, are you creating your overlay on hardened steel?

Wow Barry. Always completely amazing. Just when you think its doesn't get better they keep coming.

Regarding the question above, you mentioned the knife is soft. I was just pondering this the other day. Would you cut then harden then inlay?
Gold melts at around 1000 but most heat treatment is above that not to mention expansion contraction problems.
Ive never attempted an inlaid blade so i've never had to worry. Just figured I would ask.?

Thanks for sharing the pictures of the process with us. It would appear you do not uncut the edges as you would if doing flush gold work? Might I also ask how you make the leaf profile for setting?

Here are all the pics start to finish:

Trimming the edge with a glensteel singlepoint 90. . .

Here are two pics demonstrating the use of a round bottom chisel to sculpt the leaf.

Using a small round bottom tool to trim the edges:

After the edges are detailed with the small round botton, i shade with a 55 face 90 singlepoint:

Here is a pic after shading is completed:

Setting a 1.5 mm diamond:
