Hey y'all! My name is Crickett. I'm from Georgia. I am completely new to engraving. I haven't even attempted it yet. Just reading and learning right now. I like to draw/sketch & paint & I do a little photography. My husband thinks I should give this a try. I have always loved engraved scroll designs.
Y'all do some awesome work here! ![]() ![]() Here's some of my artwork. |

Welcome to the Forum!
Drawing is probably the most important skill for engravers, as much as most of us try to wish otherwise. They always say "A well-designed piece adequately cut, looks much better than a poorly designed piece expertly cut." If you refine your location there are probably some folks near you where you can go give things a quick try. Your absolute best thing you can do is take a class, preferably where you can try multiple ways of engraving. Even if you only get to work with one system you'll still spend a lot less on a class than you would buying everything you need to give it a real try at home. If you do want to just give it a try look at Steve's starter kit for basic push engraving. While it's not cheap, it's pretty darn inexpensive for the world of engraving. |

Too bad you didn't pop up a month or two ago - you could have gone to the Engrave-In at Scott Pilkington's place. You might check with Scott to see if he has any instruction time available - he's in Monteagle, TN.

welcome to the forum, one way to give it a try is with hammer and chisel, just make sure you learn the basics.
