Portrait Scrim
A portrait scrimshaw of my oldest daughter on ivory with ebony base. A big thank you to Liv Photography of Janesville WI for permission to use the senior picture of my daughter.

Re: Portrait Scrim
Amazing scrim, Ron! Excellent likeness, too. I'm a newbie, have a question for you or anyone who might know.
Many years ago, I worked as a scrimshander for a small jewelry owner...did legal elephant ivory (majority of material I worked on) and fossil ivories (a few pieces). We used mechanical metal 'pens' with tungsten-carbide tips. The tips were replaceable. I had one of them for a long time after I quit that job, but lost it somewhere down through the years. Now, in the twilight of my life, my sister has sent me 8 old ivory piano key veneers to scrimshaw, and I find myself in need of one of those old engraving pens...any glues as to where I could find one? Thanks! Laurel |

Re: Portrait Scrim
Hi and thanks Laurel,
The only thing that comes to mind is an exacto knife set up, I know they come in a pen like configuration. I use a coulter precesion scribe, (see pic) if your interested he sells on ebay, just search "scrimshaw hobby tool" and you'll find him. Thanks Katherine, she loved it
