Joe Kious 18K solid gold knife Ron Jr. Bulino
And were back, sorry to everyone who looked and the original post was not there. Not trying to clog up the forum by double posting this just want to make sure anyone who cares to see it does, hope you enjoy.
Details: Joe Kious 18K solid gold file worked knife with petrified tree sap (amber) inlays over stainless steel bulino worked ovals. The ovals measure 1 7/8" x 7/16". I used a CarbaltXD graver with a 70 V Bulino tip (Lindsay template) to do the bulino. Want to say thanks very much to the customer for trusting a "newbie" with this project. We all know who's style this is patterned after............... duplication is the biggest form of flattery isn't it?

This looks really good. It so ordinary and at the same time it is so complex. Fantastic composition!

I like this very much. Art or being a technical artist is hard enough but to me the real art is the creation of an idea and then completing it. Love the eyes and how they work. Thanks for the creation. chickenscratcher

Yep, definitely worth waiting for!
While I agree with the comment elsewhere that the amber slight blocks the view of your lovely bulino, I have to say I like the way it integrates with the gold. And at least it means your work is well protected. |

Re: Joe Kious 18K solid gold knife Ron Jr. Bulino
As the owner of this 18K gold Joe Kious folder, I want to extend my deepest thanks to both Joe Kious and Ron Luebke Jr.
This project turned out better than I could ever have imagined. Ron Jr's photos are very nice, however, the knife in hand is even better. Everyone knows the quality and workmanship of a Joe Kious knife. Joe was kind enough to send me several Amber samples and it was decided to use the lightest shade of Amber for the knife so as to "highlight" the bulio artistry. I have several pieces done by Ron Jr. and each one is equally impressive. Ron has a definite gift and his bulino and scrim artistry is simply exquisite. Thanks Ron for your fine artistry and for sharing the photos with the Forum. Barry |

Thank you Barry!
Both for supporting the art in commisioning this piece and for letting us have a look at it. As I say in the letter I send out with stuff, without patrons we'd still make the art because it's what we do, but we darn sure wouldn't be able to make near as much of it. |
