Default Celtic and Northwest-Style Spyderco Knife

Here’s a small inexpensive Spyderco knife I just finished, combining both Celtic linework and Northwest-style art in a sort of a fusion of cultures. Anyway, it was fun, if just a little crazy, and an interesting design challenge.

This one is just lines and stippling, without shading. I’m still working on getting my shading to look right, so I decided to do something that didn’t require any...

Anyway, thanks for looking!

That idea works really well - looking forward to seeing more work along these lines.

That fusion is really interesting.

The more I look at it, the more I can see them evolving from the same beginnings with the Celtic stretching things out and the Pacific Northwest condensing into blocks. You've managed to nicely straddle the lines with the Celtic extensions flowing naturally out of the PN blocks.

Thanks, guys. Glad this one worked out - just goes to show you even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while...

in fact nwc style has more in common w scroll work than celtic... with the flow and tension being the paramount principles.. tension coming from the dynamics of each turn and the ebb and swell of the formline... for the most part celtic formline is uniform and biulds it's interest through balance and intricacy.. would entertain the idea that the overalll form of a knot may contain elements of tension.

I've been enjoying watching the fusion of various cultural art forms on the Web over the last several years. If you google "tribal" and then click on images, you'll see lots of Celtic-ish images, combining with Maori, Native American petroglyphs, African styles, tattoos, and goodness knows what else. I haven't seen a lot of NW styles mixing in yet, so thought I'd give it a try.

Glad to see this is stimulating a little bit of interesting discussion.
