Default New Knives and Engraving

I've posted two knives which I've made and engraved. Both are lockback folders, approx. 7 3/8 open. They are in my forum photo album.

Those are nice!

Did you have the blades to engrave before they were heat treated or did you just get the job done through sheer determination?

Thanks for the kind words.

Steve, I engraved the blades before heat treating. My next knife will have 24Kt Gold inlayed in the blade in it so I'll do all the undercutting etc. prior to heat treat. I think it should work fine.

ART, what type of steel did you use on the blade? Check your pm. Doug

Doug:
I use 440C for my blades, springs, lockbar and 416 for the frame handles. I find the 440C engraves well. Also I bring my blades to final finish before heat treating and the 440C seems fairly easy to bring back to final finish after heat treat. I don't want to loose any of the blade engraving at that point with a lot of polishing.
