I was asked to put my interpritation into an old Greener pattern but not completely lose it, here's the start of it.
The scenes will be carved.

Phil,

We have a book by W.W. Greener in our local library that I often check out. It was originally published in the late 1800's. I like his statement that engraved guns are meant to be used in the field and the purpose of the engraving is to keep a finely crafted firearm looking good as it develops a patina where as a plain firearm will simply look used.

Are your finished guns ever get let out to play by their owners?

Some are John, obviously the very elaborate gold one are not.

I know you've mentioned that you'd prefer to do your own design rather than a project like this but I think a project like this is, in some ways, a better showcase of your skills.

Anyone can do work in their own style, and with practice they should be able to do good work in their own style. But with real skill you can do good work in someone else's style.

Phil, Looking super! What did the old Greener engraved pattern look like? Did they have a standard pattern on them?

It's a standard pattern with very small tight scrolls running around the plates similar to the bottom front part of mine. It's probably dated to the early part of the twentieth century.

I decided to loosen it up a bit by making it more leafy with larger spaces.
The problem is, keeping it looking like the original but still changing it.

I would prefer starting from scratch with my own design.
