Default My new vise stand

It's small, compact, and solid as a rock. One pedal makes it go up and one makes it go down. The top surface is 16.25"x 14". I mounted a 24"x 1.25" wood disk to the top. $139.00. plus $8 for the disk. I can lower it to 17" off the floor or stand at it @ 37". I'll post some actual working pics soon.

It's Awsome!

Here are the updated pics. I've been using a drill press setup for about 6yrs. This new setup is the best I've used yet. Gun Barrels swing freely. No poles or wires in the way. Large objects are no problem. I can lower the vice nearly to the floor or stand at it if I want to... by use of two foot padels. Scope hangs down and unattached from everything.

Comfort is a wonderful thing! Enjoy

That is looking great. I like your setup. Scope independant of the benche so no unnecesary vibrations in the optics.
Good that the harmonica lift is as solid as a rock. Must be if you can lift a motorbikes with it. Would have never guessed.
Haven't seen anything like that before here in Europe. Could be interesting.

Thanks for the tip!

Daniel

Hi Plat955, That is the easiest 'best' solution I have seen so far. I also like the scope mounting from the wall. I haven't got a scope yet, but that is something to think about also.
Thanks for sharing.

Very cool. What item is the hydraulic lift? That has a LOT of travel.

Your setup looks really well thought out and functional.

Thanks guys!

Pete, It is a motorcycle engine stand. Check out my first post.

I used a drill press stand for about 6yrs and I found for gun engraving the support pole needs to be cut down for barrel clearence. Even then it had limitations. I origionally went to the store for a drill press and accidentely stumbled onto this and the wheels started turning. After playing with it and putting heavy objects on it. I found it to be perfect. So I bought it and mounted a wood disc to the top. It is solid, heavy, and extremely adjustible to the point where once the top and the ball is on it you could stand and work if desired, or lower it to the floor.

I personally, absolutely love it!... and I couldn't beet the price.

Just ran out and bought one. Has a lot of nice bench space beside the vise. I haven't tried this yet but setting it up with a corner towards you might allow for easier stradling. It is a bit wide to set for hours with your legs spread wide. I might try that today. Thanks for the great tip......

Hey bronzeo,

I mounted the wooden disk forward as far as it can go so I actually sit under it rather then straddle it. also any kind of tounge like extension off the front that the ball can sit on should work just fine.

I hope it works out for you!

Angry Re: My new vise stand

I'm sorry if this sounds like a wet blanket, but only a word of caution here. The hydraulics on this system are not very expensive, thus may leak sooner that expected. Repairs to the jack are expensive and the jack may or may not be available for replacement. You just might want to check this critical item out before making the investment. I do agree this looks like a great vise stand. Again I'm sorry to sound a little negative to a great idea!

I'll keep it in mind msisut,

The bottle jack looks very easily changable... I cant imagine I'll be putting more then 1/3 of the max weight on it that it's rated for, and not even close to the weight of a cycle engine.

Experimenting with new tools is a fun part of this trade...after all these tools pay for themselves, and make us money when we use them.

So far I'm very pleased with it and the price was right!
