Default Raised and Sclupted 24K gold inlay.....

First....Jim Cooper did a fantastic job on the photograph and I was so glad to see him and his lovely wife at the Blade Show.
This is a Johnny Stout automatic folder. It really is a nice piece of equipment and the work is absolutely the best. The only request from Johnny was that I try to favorably match the feather pattern in the blade. The other knife shown is one we did last year for the same client and he wanted both photographed together.
Back at the engravers booth, in a discussion, we all agreed that 24K gold was very hard to sculpt....it really is a challenge. I lightly stippled around the engraving to give the gold and Damascus some contrast....I thought this turned out well.
If you should have any questions....please feel free to ask. I will do my best to explain.
Thanks

Jim, That's damned pretty work my friend! I really like that blade steel as well. In fact that is my new favorite pattern. Sure would like to run up on a chunk of that stuff.

Thanks for posting this, that Coop fella has that picture taking figured out don't he:yesnod:

Friend Jim:
Very beautiful work of the engraving. The gold projects out very well and his contrast with damask is beautiful.
Thanks to show his engraving.
One of his friend Antonio's greetings.

That sculpted gold really looks good contrasted with the pattern, the beaded border around the pins looks great also.

Jim, could you explain how you would do a raised gold border thats just flat?
Do you tape over the gold then sand through the tape til the gold is flat and even? Any help at all would be appreciated.

Barry, you did a perfect flat raised gold border on that latest Osborne knife, could you explain how you did that please?

Beautiful work and a great photo.
"we all agreed that 24K gold was very hard to sculpt." Could you amplify on that? what difficulties did you encounter? Is it the softness of 24K?
Thanks
cassie
