from my collection
Hello.
This knife was made by Japanese knife maker Shiro Furukawa, and engraved by also Japanese engraver Waichi Tomita with English scroll and "Nanakoji(roe)" style finish. "Nanakoji" is one of Japanese traditional pattern of metal work which can be seen in Japanese sword fittings. Please enjoy. kyj |

Re: from my collection
Most excellent and beautiful knife.
Please tell me why the legend on the blade is etched in English when the knife was made in Japan by Japanese craftsmen? Was it made with export in mind? Thank you, Roger

Re: from my collection
Mr. Bleile;
Thank you for your kind comment. Most of Japanese knife makers stamp(or etch) their logo mark in English style orthography when they make "Western style" knives. In the same way, some Western makers would make "Japanese sword style" blades, and sometimes would engrave "Kanji" letters on it... We Japanese learned many from Western culture. And when we make Western style things, we often use English letters. Just for your information, Mr. Furukawa learned Western style knife making method, and he presented his early knife to Mr. Randall. Mr. Randall designed the logo mark of "SF MADE KNIVES" for Mr. Furukawa, and presented it as a reward. Sincerely, kyj |

Re: from my collection
Mr. Douglas;
Thank you for your comment. Mr. Furukawa sometimes collaborate with Mr. Tomita. When I ordered this knife to Mr. Furukawa, he proposed to engrave the knife by Mr. Tomita. They discussed manytimes about the engraving, and made drawings of some pattern. And we discussed to fix the final design of the knife. When I order the knife or the engraving, I want to know the thought of the maker or the engraver. Sincerely, kyj |
