44 Magnum Engraved/Inlaid with Gold...1957
This 44 Magnum was ordered from Rex Firearms in NYC in 1957 by an individual in California. The revolver was completed in December at a cost of $720 and shipped in late December. Roy Jinks told me the gun was most likely engraved by Sigfried Rentzschke, who was employed by S&W at this time. This particular 44 Magnum is one of the best post-war engraved and inlaid guns that I have ever seen. I have had it in my collection for about ten years.

Doc,
Thanks for sharing a part of your collection with us. These are unusually good pictures with lots of detail. Thanks also for sharing the historic background of the gun as well. I hope to see more engraved examples from your collection. Thanks, Roger

Many engraved pieces like this are generally seen and enjoyed by only a very few. Once engraved they usually live in a safe. They are pieces of engraving history, and it is fun to see these great examples.
Thanks for sharing, Gail

Gail makes a very good point. There is an enormous museum of engraved guns hiding in safes and closets across America. If only they could be brought to light as Doc has done.
