HOWDY, from MD's eastern shore!
I just joined your fine group and look forward to exchanging thoughts and ideas. My name is Dalton Shiflet and I live on MD's eastern shore. I'm a Vietnam veteran, a knife maker, painter and love photography. I've always admired engraved works of art and want to add engraving knives and firearms to my list of endeavors. I look forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!!!!

Hi Dalton,
Welcome to this here engraving place. I love your subtitle, "Life is too short to cut with an ugly knife" You are so right. I would only like to add that a blunt knife would be worse than an ugly one You being a knife maker, Could you show us some of your most favorite knifes you have made? Thanks in advance! Daniel |

to a fellow Vietnam veteran. I can hardly believe it's been 45 years since I set foot on the red soil of "The Nam."
Just about everything you need to know about hand engraving is somewhere in this site if you look for it. Also, I'll suggest you visit my engraving glossary to learn of all the terms and tools we use in the trade. Just click on the link under my name or the word Glossary in red at the top of the page. Best wishes. Roger

Re: HOWDY, from MD's eastern shore!
HEY GUYS, THANKS FOR THE WARM WELCOME. I'M JUST GETTING STARTED IN ENGRAVING AND HAVE SOME WHAT OF AN ART BACKGROUND. I USED TO CAST JEWELRY, SCRIMSHAW, SILVER AND GOLDSMITHING AND STONE CUTTING. NOW I MAKE CUSTOM MADE KNIVES AND HAVE A DESIRE TO ADD ANOTHER DIMENSION TO MY CRAFT. I HAD NO IDEA TOOLS WERE SO EXPENSIVE! ARE THERE ANY USED TOOLS AVAILABLE FOR THE NOVICE?
