More Tattoo Related Engraving
Here are a couple of pieces that I worked on this last month. The first is a cnc'ed frame that I guess is mild steel-cuts great, polishes beautiful- from Dan Yoder. The other picture is of a Tattoo grip made of stainless with a brass wire band inlayed. Stainless might not have been the best choice for inlaying, since there's no contrast to show the brass against the polished SS and you can't blue it(I can't anyway). I now have much more respect for those gun engravers that work on round barrels, that's pretty tricky.

Chapi, thats looking pretty cool.
About colouring the stainless, you could bleu it with a torch. It does take some practise and your piece has to be fat free, but you could definetely colour it. Your brass would colour too, but since its not a very difficult inlay to tape off and polish it could be done. If you have a clean heat source, a torch or maybe even your furnace, you could put it into the flame or furnace and gradually and very evenly bring it up to the temp. that gives you the colour that you want. It will start with yellow, be sure to get the colours even on every part of the piece before going to the next colour. After yellow, brown, purple deep dark blue and lighter blue will follow. Dont go beyond that cause after the first range of colours, the time is much more critical. I have blued the stainless pc handle with a propane/oxigen torch. Hope this helps, and if you have skype i could even show you how I do it. Would take about ten minutes. |

I think I know the technique that you are talking about Daniel. I remember the brilliant blue/purple that you had on the handpiece. I have seen this finish on a lot of machines. I've never tried it with stainless, I might have to give it a try on the next one. Thanks!
