Returning Newbie
Just once again I wish to say HI
Joined a couple of years ago but family life took precedence and I put engraving on the backburner for a while. Chris from Auckland New Zealand. Just bought a copy of "The Art of Engraving" by Meek, from ebay. Should arrive this week. A life long passion for firearms and the work of art that has gone into the engraving and woodwork associated with them has led me to wanting to give it a go myself. Currently building a Marlin Ballard target rifle from scratch and will be wanting to finish this with appropriate engraving and finishing I'm 54 years old and have at last just managed to find time for my own interests rather than the families. Bear with me I will not be posting a lot of the time. I'm on a learning curve and will be digesting this forum with much gusto. Chris |

Re: Returning Newbie
OK so now a couple of weeks on I have been a very busy puppy.
I havent managed any tools yet or made a single cut. I have devoured the book by James Meek and am busy practicing my drawing skills , or more specifically my lack of such. I have been very busy gathering books on drawings and artwork either in hardcopy or electronic. I have convinced my partner that engraving is an art form and she is supporting me in my endeavours 100%. I caught her going through this site and my books the other day looking for a nice delicate design that she could use as a tattoo. She has one other tattoo and wants another for balance. We have purchased an older copy of Photoshop for the PC. Next we plan on obtaining some tools and practice plates. Things are progressing along nicely. Cant wait to make my first cut but would like to be prepared as much as possible first. Even convinced a few mates to let me practice on their rifles at a later stage. Chris |
