New Knives and Engraving
I've posted two knives which I've made and engraved. Both are lockback folders, approx. 7 3/8 open. They are in my forum photo album.

Re: New Knives and Engraving
Those are nice!
Did you have the blades to engrave before they were heat treated or did you just get the job done through sheer determination? |

Re: New Knives and Engraving
Thanks for the kind words.
Steve, I engraved the blades before heat treating. My next knife will have 24Kt Gold inlayed in the blade in it so I'll do all the undercutting etc. prior to heat treat. I think it should work fine. --Art |

ART, what type of steel did you use on the blade? Check your pm. Doug

Re: New Knives and Engraving
Doug:
I use 440C for my blades, springs, lockbar and 416 for the frame handles. I find the 440C engraves well. Also I bring my blades to final finish before heat treating and the 440C seems fairly easy to bring back to final finish after heat treat. I don't want to loose any of the blade engraving at that point with a lot of polishing. --Art |
