Copper Hare
I have been aching to make some simpler pieces and this is the first out of the gate.
A small (6.75" wide) slab of ebony suggested a painterly landscape to which has been added a running hare in copper with gold eye. Carved and engraved, with chased hair. I borrowed the hare profile from a lacquer painting by Shibata Zeshin and expanded it into a shallow relief carving. There are some close-up views here: http://www.jimkelso.com/Galleries/be...ery/index.html

Re: Copper Hare
Hi Jim,
I've admired your work for ages and the owl tut is brilliant. Good insight. This hare is wonderfully whimsical. Question tho. What method of attachment have you used here to the wood? |

Re: Copper Hare
Another beautiful piece! Thank you for showing. Very, very nice new pieces on your homepage, too, hadn't been there for a while!

Re: Copper Hare
Thanks very much guys.
Mehoose, the hare has a pin soldered on the back which is glued into a hole in the wood. Jim

Re: Copper Hare
Never seen your art before. Don't think I've seen anything like it either.
But I love it. Great is a fitting word. |
