New convert to Palm Control
I just picked up my new palm control from Steve Lindsay last week. Last night was the first time I was able to sit down and try it out for real.
All I can say is WOW!! I started a nickel carving. The braids came off the Indian so effortlessly it's truly like cutting butter. I wonder how I was able to do without it for the first 32 years of my engraving career. Hat's off to to Steve for this wonderful tool. |

Re: New convert to Palm Control
Ron
Is this just your first time with Palm control or your first time with power? I can't quite afford palm control yet myself but I've gotten to play with it enough to know that I want it, but oh, isn't power nice! It's just pure magic it is. |

Re: New convert to Palm Control
Ron,
Thanks again for your die-making lesson at Scott's last spring. After using the foot-control, the transition was a little slower for me, like dawn arriving on an overcast day, but I am addicted now. It is a great tool, and Steve is justly proud of it. Mike Fennell |

Re: New convert to Palm Control
Ron,
Glad to see you got the palmcontrol. It's the best tool I have gotten yet. If you think the braids dissappeared fast, try the tungsten piston. See you in Florida. You too Chief.... Keith |

Re: New convert to Palm Control
Pneumatic engraving is like being in the lawn care business and going from a motorless rotary push mower to an air conditioned luxury cab riding mower. I don't think one can even compete professionally without power anymore. Also the palm control is the ultimate in instantaneous control and physical ergonomics, freeing up your foot is relief to the spine.

Hi Ron,
great to see you on here. You are sure right about the Palm Control, it makes you wonder how you ever got in without it. |

Steve, I had a Gravermeister for years that I ended up selling last year. The noise about drove me nuts. I always felt it was over-kill for what I wanted to use it for, and never really got the hang of using it. The thing I like about the palm control is that I don't have to re-learn anything. I learned to use push-gravers exclusively, so the palm control is virtually the same, except the power totally eliminates any hand fatigue. I don't push the tool, I just guide it through the metal... Awesome. I always had a hard time keeping my foot completely OFF the pedal between cuts, and would inevitably put little chattermarks on the work by accident. It's kind of like chewing gum and walking at the same time. I can't engrave with my feet... which is what it felt like for me using a foot control. It was a tough choice, but after using it a short while, I'm totally convinced it was the right choice. For me anyway. Mike, thanks for the nice comments. I hope to have a do-over on that presentation some day. I wasn't in a very good frame of mind that year nor was I very well prepared. Keith, I'm going to try the tungsten piston. I'm thinking about getting into some MC engraving and will need a little extra umph. I've also got my eyes on the nitro for that. Arrggh!! |

Re: New convert to Palm Control
Ron,
I agree wth all your comments, you have to try the palm control. I just had somone here, he tried the foot pedal, then tried the palmcontrol and ordered the palm control because he said it felt natural. I just engraved another giant 3 inch crap metal nickel and used the tungsten piston on it and cut it like butter. Im looking at the nitro as well. Would like to try one. Do you want me to bring the piston to FUN? |
