Hi, I'm new ...
I'm new to this forum and want to introduce myself.
My name is Andi and I have been drawing, painting and occassionally sculpting since I was young. I am interested in learning more about engraving, and starting with some intro plates. Not sure yet how best to begin. Curious if there are any engravers in Massachusetts (near Boston) or New Hampshire? I'd love opportunity to connect with them and speak about engraving and best ways to start. Thanks! |

Hi Andora,
Welcome to the Engraving Forum. I would suggest learn the basics then progress further .You have drawing and painting talent.Drawing is important in engraving. To start give it a try and see how it goes ; http://www.engravingforum.com/showthread.php?t=4 If you can get a small course to begin from a tutor that will be a good start. SE

Re: Hi, I'm new ...
Hi All,
Thanks for the welcome. I recall in a printing art class years ago I engraved a plate, and loved that but not the printing part. What I love about these engraved pieces - the knives, bracelets - is that the engraving itself IS the finished work. Just love the works on this site. Beautiful pieces. p.s. - Still curious where to find a workshop/tutor in the area.. as well as where to buy wood graver/hand graver and plate (brass, copper or steel) for starters - any suggestions send them along. |

Andora,
Steve does a manual kit ; http://www.airgraver.com/Hand_Engrav...Graver%20Tools You shape the point and start practising. This kit will last a long time. Practise plates towards the bottom of the page. SE
